My Utility Floggers

I get messaged on a regular basis about the floggers I use in my tutorials. I usually respond with a link to this page, because 1) we have like 20 sets of floggers that we use regularly, so 2) I don’t want to feel like I’m advocating for any one set, because 3) ultimately, I want people to make their own informed decisions.

Still, I get asked this question all the time. And I don’t want to keep sounding like I’m being evasive when I’m actually trying to inform.

Sooooo, if you’re wondering about the specific floggers I use in my tutorials …

Duhn duhn duhnnnnnnn.

Here’s all the information on them …

Why This Set?

The floggers are a custom set from Asylum Leathers*. (But really, click here to see the infamous list I’ve compiled of shops who take online orders.)

*Note: As of April 2025, Asylum Leathers is on indefinite hiatus, so definitely check out the link above for the latest updates on shops that make finger floggers.

I use this set in my tutorials because they happen to be the perfect length for me to execute the widest variety of moves. They’re the most generalized (as opposed to specialized) floggers we have, so I default to this set when I’m not doing a scene and don’t have any specific impact goals in mind.

They’re also weight-balanced to spin like poi, which is why I usually bring this set to events where I’ll probably do more spinning than actual flogging.

So really, that I favor this specific set should only matter to you if you just happen to be a kinkster who spins floggers like poi.

Tails/Falls

The tails are a little over 12″ long, each tail is 1/4″ wide, and there are 36 total tails. The tails are constructed from six long strips of cowhide, each strip cut into three tails on both ends, then layered over each other, threaded through a metal D-ring, folded over, and bound together.

If you look closely, you’ll also notice that each layer is actually two pieces of cowhide permanently bonded together. This means that, unlike regular cowhide floggers, where each tail has a smooth side and an unfinished suede-like side, both sides of each tail are smooth, finished leather.

This makes the leather way more resistant to stains and also way easier to clean. For this reason alone, I love using these floggers as my go-to set, because they’re tough and durable.

The double layer also makes the floggers way punchier. But hey, that’s a feature, not a flaw.

Okay, so that’s the tail section. Next up …

Finger Loops

As mentioned on our Flogger Options page, we have different finger loops that we interchange. I personally prefer chain finger loops because of the extra momentum they allow me to generate.

All of our chain finger loops are also custom orders from Asylum Leathers.

Since I’m taller than M, we use different finger loops on the same tails, so that we can optimize flogger length for each of us. The chains I use with this particular set are a 3″ long chain mail weave with a swiveled trigger snap.

Length Considerations

I like my floggers to be short enough so that I can execute buzzsaws, as discussed in this post. Being able to hold a buzzsaw position opens up a ton of moves that I can do. As such, I consider my optimum flogger length to be just short of hitting myself in the face when I’m doing buzzsaws.

This does not mean, however, that my preference should be your preference. You may not care about buzzsaws. You may want your floggers to be long and flowy. That’s great! You do you. You absolutely should stipulate your flogger length based on your own body measurements and preferences, not mine.

If you want to lengthen a set of floggers, chain finger loops are great for that. And if you want to shorten them, consider cutting the tails with a nice pair of scissors.

And that’s basically it. Hopefully that answers all of your questions about my floggers.

But really, enough about my floggers. Take the avalanche of technical info I offer on this page, and then go and figure out your own floggers. 🙂
