As veteran members of our local kink community, we offer introductory impact play experiences to people who are curious about BDSM. And now, we’re adding a twist on these experiences …
We’ve turned impact play into a game that we call Pick your Poison. We have a spinner wheel showing six different types of sensations. Participants spin the wheel, and then we give them a five-minute experience centered around the sensation they land on.
We use different toys and techniques to deliver the six sensations, which we call “poisons.” I’m sure some of them will sound familiar to you:
- Thuddy: toys that deliver a dull thud and are less painful.
- Sting-y: toys that deliver a sharp pain.
- Sensual: toys that tickle the senses and are totally painless.
- Sexy: toys focused on erogenous zones.
- Surprising: deceptive toys used with unpredictable timing.
- Silly: funny and lighthearted toys.

Our goal with Pick Your Poison is to offer curious participants a fun introduction to impact play. But more importantly, we want to model consent and safety. Our broader mission is to help people understand that kink comprises a variety of elements, and we want to show them how to play safely with all these elements.
Beyond that, Pick Your Poison also benefits us as impact tops. By separating the sensations into different categories, we have to stay versatile with our skill set. Now, instead of always using the same favorite toys and falling back on the same favorite moves, we have to adjust our technique based on the chosen category.
If you’d like to co-opt Pick Your Poison for your own event, here are the full resources that you are welcome to take and adapt:
- Experience Pitch: what we send to event organizers, so they know exactly what we are offering.
- Guidelines for Tops: information for people working as service tops for the experience.
- Guidelines for Support: information for people working as support personnel for the experience.
- Print Materials: information to be displayed and discussed with participants at the event (Google Doc, opens in new tab).
- Liability Waivers: forms for participants to read and sign if the event has a low risk tolerance (Google Doc, opens in new tab).
I mean, it’s a pretty simple concept, so we don’t see the point of trying to copyright it. Feel free to take Pick Your Poison and run with it.
